Sydney

Sydney was admitted to the clinic as an emergency having being trapped in a house fire. At first we thought it was too late to save him as he was in a terrible state- cold, stiff and completely black (we discovered later he is usually mainly white!).
Thankfully after oxygen therapy and treatment for shock, he started to show signs of life.
Several times he looked as if he was rallying but then rapidly deteriorated and had to be rushed back to his oxygen tent.
It took 8 days before he was well enough for a short stroll around the intensive care room.
Sydney’s coat was impregnated with oily soot from burning plastic and he still made the whole clinic smell like a bush fire. Two weeks after admission we decided that he was strong enough for a bath. Once dried, he did a bit of grooming for the first time since the fire.
Four weeks later and Smoking Syd is doing his favourite things – eating and sleeping – and so is off to his newly refurbished home. Many thanks to Tim, Judith and Theresa who kept Syd supplied with goodies and kept his worried family (who were on holiday in Australia) up to date with his progress.
